DOT Sleep Apnea Evaluation

Before a sleep study, a physician evaluation determines your risk and the right next step. Here's what a DOT sleep apnea evaluation with Appiia looks like.

What the evaluation covers

Your provider reviews your symptoms, medical history, and the risk factors certified medical examiners weigh — then uses validated screening tools to decide whether a home sleep test is warranted. It is a focused, physician-led conversation, done by video or phone.

Risk factors we review

  • Body mass index (BMI) and neck circumference
  • Blood pressure, especially if difficult to control
  • Loud snoring, witnessed breathing pauses, and daytime sleepiness
  • Validated screeners such as STOP-BANG and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale

From evaluation to testing

If your risk warrants it, we order an FDA-cleared home sleep test; a board-certified sleep medicine physician interprets the results and, if obstructive sleep apnea is found, builds a treatment plan and the documentation your examiner needs.
